Is it realistic for a total beginner to build a wooden ship model from scratch?

- Yes. Follow directions and anything is possible.
- From scratch? probably not. There are plenty of kits out there, though, that come with all the parts and directions to follow that you should probably start with. Once you've made a few kits and know all the parts and hwo they are shaped, how they fit, etc, then you can move on to building one from scratch
- IF you take your time, AND have good manual dexterity, YES. THAT is how they did it BEFORE there were kits!
- It is probably easier if you start with a kit. Most ships of this site http://www.shipmodels.eu/ seem to be made from kits. The site is good to first choose a ship model you like and then use the many photos as guidance when building the model yourself. The kits I liked most because of fine design and good description were from Caldercraft.
