Steering Wheel Creaking?

We have a Chrysler Voyager and right now it is making this really loud 'creeaaak' noise everytime we turn the steering wheel. Sounds sorta like the sound a wooden ship makes on the ocean. Is there any simple way to fix it without taking it in to the shop? If not and we`re forced to take it in, is there a place that will give true, honest to god evaluations? Chryler has tried to make us buy several new parts we didn`t need and we`ve taken it to STS but they didn`t hear anything during the test drive (don`t you hate that?).
