how can you make plastic model ships look battle damaged? any ideas or tips?

  1. depending on how big it is, you could through marbles or airsofting pellets (i think that's what they are called!) at it. Or maybe get a candle light and slightly burn it. Oh i don't know, but good luck!
  2. For modern ships, you'd really have to build some of the interior while building the model. Then you'd thin the plastic around your damage area or replace it with thin scrap styrene plastic. Torn railings, burst compartments, and fire damage !! You could, if the scale is large enough, use a pin-drill or hot needle to simulate bullet holes. On wooden ships, you'd replace the area to be damaged with some sheet wood and poke and pick it.
