How do you safely transport plastic models? I have quite a number of plastic model ships that I wish to transport, but knowing how brittle they are, I was wondering if anyone out there would know how to transport them.

Finding painting scheme of the CV-16 'Lexington' for college plastic ship modeling enthusiast.? I can get a little anal when it comes to realism of my model ships. The instructions for my Dragon 1:700 CV-16 Lexington model gives me some unsure painting instructions. For one, there is no black waterline belt mentioned in the instructions and I'm sure that every ship in that era had them. I also don't know what to paint the island, was it grey, gunmetal grey or light grey? Was the landing deck black or grey? I know that the Lexington was nicknamed 'Blue ghost' for it's blue hull paint job but other than seeing black and white photos of the real CV-16 and poor quality images of other model CV-16's with unconvincing paint jobs, I'm getting more and more anxious to find a model or picture that would help me get my model as possible as possible to the real thing back in '44. Thanks in advance P.S. Don't really want to spend an extra $20 bucks paying for a picture book of the CV-16 after buying the $45 plastic model kit. (I'm a college student)
What Company Makes These Type Of Toy Models? I'm just wondering what company makes those plastic models of ships, tanks, planes etc... Its just cause I love building plastic toy models of gundams before and I bought a plastic model of a Ferrari F1 car which i had to build, and i had to use this kind of special glue to glue pieces together unlike gundam where pieces attach on to each other.
where can i find a model replica of tiger woods yacht? im looking for a die cast or plastic model of the Hull 026. Christensen Shipyards 155 Trideck Motor Yacht. Do kids still build model airplanes, cars, ships? Or is it just old guys now? I'm thinking primarily of plastic kits, like I built when I was a kid, but also wood (for ships and balsa for planes) and/or metal, etc, etc. etc. I know there are a lot of Lego sets and Zoobs and magnent construction sets and so forth. Do kids build airliners (737, 777, A320, A380, etc) or jet fighters (F/A-18E, F-15C, Su-27, Harrier) or cars (Mustangs! New Beetles, Honda Civics)? Thanks.
It sounds stupid but does anyone know how to find out what the name of a ship i made from a plastic model kit? I was dusting it and i was trying to remember what its name was. i cant find a likeness to it on the internet but i didn't know if anyone knows of a website where i could compare them? its a warship, i have no idea who made it but i have a feeling it may be an airfix or a revell, but it isnt listed on their sites and i cant find a matching pic on the site of the shop i bought it from btw it isnt an aircraft carrier but it does have planes on it
How can a Cola-Cola can be used for plating plastic model hull? How can I create such a wonderful effect that would consist of many tiny elements (or many effects added) to get armour plating on a ship, without using 2500 elements and glue them together? Here is the effect: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w179/Ebak_the_cat/NXMk2.jpg?t=1273494529 I'll paint the plastic model then after I lean how to make such tiny rectangles and squares. I thought originally to get Cola can, cut it, glue it and polish it. Someone has an idea how to achieve it other way? Fine wit those decals, but I need to make it from plates of similar size. Maybe it's crazy, but further my other craziness is to make it fly starting from the ground, so the model must be strong enough and that will do, so any ideas more?
How to rig a model "Ship of the line?"? I have a model Lindberg "Jolly Roger" ship (http://www.historicships.com/Plastics/JollyRoger/JollyRogerW.jpg) and I HAVE NO IDEA how to rig it. the diagram in the instructions is USELESS!!!!! Does anyone know where i can get a simple, step by step explanation on how to rig model ships? PLEASE HELP ME!!!
what colors of paints are best for plastic models? im building a model of a ship from the deep space 9 tv shows and im wondering what colors would look best paint wise as im trying to create a damage effect and i need to know what colors to use to create a burning fire effect thanks
Which is the best Make of Plastic Model Kit? I have been making an Airfix Beginners kit of an Aston Martin DB5. It's been interesting, but I was a bit disappointed with the general quality of the kit (the instructions were very vague, the main body was badly warped and many of the parts were significantly affected by moulding marks and such like. I'd like to do some more cars, but also some military planes, ships and possibly submarines and tanks. In general terms, I've heard good things about Tamiya (i also built some of their RC models, so know that division produces good quality), are there any other manufacturers that consistently produce good kits?
What can i make with plastic boxes? I work at a juice bar. We use a lot of yogurt a day. So the whit plastic containers for the yogurt are pilled up at end of the day. Where can I find...? Plastic ship model bodys. Just need the main body of a ship. Perferably a Navy destroyer ship body, but It doesn't really matter. Just something that looks like the Titanic or something of the sort. Also If you can find a model of the ship: USS Eldridge DE-173, that would be better, but just the ship body is good.
Please Help!!!!Easy 10 points? What Company Makes These Type Of Toy Models? I'm just wondering what company makes those plastic models of ships, tanks, planes etc... Is making model castles gay? I know most guys build model airplanes, model tanks, model ships, model trains, etcetera. But I've got a collection of model castles I built in our basement, and I'm also fond of building dollhouses. See, when my little sister was growing up, we didn't have the money to buy dollhouses. So my dad (with my help) promised to make her her own dollhouses. And now, I got hooked! I build wooden (not the plastic ones) dollhouses for a hobby! Most guys accuse me of being gay because I build model castles (most of which are fairytale castles. The white wall, blue or pink roof variety) and dollhouses! Is anything wrong with my hobby?!? Most guys reason it is, because they build TANKS, SHIPS, PLANES, while I build FAIRYTALE CASTLES! That's how they accuse me!
Any car parts store ships to europe? I'm looking to buy an air induction kit for my nissan micra K11 1.oL 95' model. But not K&N as it's too much for such an upgrade. Any store that have any kits fitting my car which aren't too pricey & ships to europe? Can I simply buy a cone-filter & attach a pipe to it's inlet and guide the pipe to the car's inlet, maybe a plastic or stainless steel pipe? cos if it's that easy I'll do it myself.

Salvo (?) electric board game from the 1970s? Does anyone remember a game from the 1970s that was a semi-transparent blue plastic case probably two foot wide and probably a foot and a bit high, which involved sinking (or targetting) enemy ships (clear transparent plastic models) using a combination of two dials to control the horizontal and vertical movement of a small bulb underneath, which if it happened to be under the model counted as a hit? I've found almost every game I can remember from my childhood online easily apart from this one. I'm not 100% certain it was called Salvo but I believe it was, and I doubt it could be mistaken with many other games as very few would involve a pair of dials to move the gun's impact area (a small light-bulb) independently horizontally and vertically under a plastic playing area, on what must have been a spring-mounted target as it was very spongy in movement, which made the game that much better as the calculation for the gun firing (your ship to the target ship) more random.
My car needs body work. How do I find a shop that won't rip me off? Or can I do it myself? I am pretty handy I used to make lots of really good plastic models of battle ships and cars. So in my mind, I was thinking maybe I can fix my car's body. Someone hit it when it was parked and left!! It's pretty major damage to the shell. How do I find a shop for body work? I saw prices for body parts on ebay that should total $400 in materials. And new body kits are around $500 so I might as well get a new body kit? And then try to find a decent shop to install it? Or should i do it myself? How do I find a shop that won't rip me off? I don't know any one around with body shop experiences.
Technical plastic modeling question? Hi I am working now on tamiya Bismarck & I have just assembled the deck of the ship as you know the deck comes in 3 pieces & when you glue them together to the surface of the hull you can still notice the deck in 3 pieces glued ..is there away to seal the thin lines between the deck pieces to make look as if it is naturally one piece?? any ideas ..thanks
Can I use Tamiya Model Spray Paints on Barbie Furniture? I want to paint plastic barbie furniture and I was wondering if model paints made for plastics would be good for this job. I have heard excellent things about Krylon Fusion for plastics but it is not readily available in Australia and cannot be shipped easily so its not really an option for me. However, model paints are widely available in many colors. Can you give me some pointers if so, how far to hold the can, light spray or solid coverage the first go, how long to dry... etc. I did try one attempt with a Gundam brand can and I think I applied too much/didn't allow it enough time to dry as it is easily chipping off after I painted it. To answer any questions about my pretreatment: I tried spraying items that were presanded and prewashed (to remove oil and debris). Thanks!

Where can I buy PCL in Australia (Mold-Your-Own Grips, InstaMorph, Shapelock, Friendly Plastic, Polymorph)? PCL a.k.a. Polycaprolactone - Mold-Your-Own Grips, InstaMorph, Shapelock, Friendly Plastic, Polymorph is sold in USA and UK but cannot be shipped to Australia. It's a fabulous hobbyist product but my main interest in it is that it is re-useable. Details from wikipedia below - Polycaprolactone or PCL (brand names used in selling it to this market are Mold-Your-Own Grips, InstaMorph, Shapelock, Friendly Plastic, Polymorph). It has physical properties of a very tough, nylon-like plastic that melts to a putty-like consistency at only 60°C. Most plastic prototyping or modeling materials can only be activated or molded once and once they harden, they are locked in that shape forever. PCL is moldable again and again.
How can I get my new website listed for search engines to find it easily? Hello and thanks in advance for reading this!! How can I get my new website listed for search engines easily? I would like it to show up in the top somewhere. My website is www.giesinc.com and I designed it with my keywords as follows in an area where they told me to put them on using SiteBuilder: (rapid,prototype,fdm,prototyping,prototypes,mockup,mockups,3D, model, abs, dimension, sst, printer, metro, detroit, area, shipping, overnight, sameday, design, services,CAD,modeling, marketing, sample, samples). I offer nationwide delivery of solid model prototypes with same-day local service (Metropolitan Detroit Area), and overnight delivery nationwide. Prototypes are made from 3D CAD models and printed on a special printer that prints the model in 3D using ABS plastic. Does it cost me anything to have the site listed and to keep it higher in rankings? Tx so much for your help! Nate www.giesinc.com
What are the best things to use when customizing model horses? I've just started customizing breyer horses and the things I'm using seem to be acceptable. I'm using Milliput epoxy putty for repairs/remakes of limbs, ears, etc.. but it's not cheap. I get four ounces of superfine white or standard yellow-grey for $13-15 online and its usually outside the US and it takes a while to get to me. Does anybody know of any similar brands of epoxy available with in the US at same or better cost? Also I'm using acrylics for repaint and mixing it with M. Grahamm Matte medium. It seems to be working well but are there any reports on long term effeciveness of this medium? Are there any brands of binder medium or primer that is better? I've heard of Atelier but I only found that in Australia and it not pretty shipping cost. I use a kind of old school heat gun but when heating the model when ever I cut into it the plastic seems to push around when I'm kind of expecting to slice through butter. Am I using enough heat or is this an unrealistic expectation of the heated plastic? I've been to many horse model customizing sites and received advice but I'm after second/third opinions...
What happens to the unbuffed liquid wax-polish applied on model cars on very frigid weather (PLS READ AHEAD)? What happens to the unbuffed liquid wax-polish applied on model cars on very frigid weather (PLS READ AHEAD) I am currently expecting a package to arrive to me today... and it's currently freezing out there... The package, which contains a scale die-cast metal model car is known to be pre-waxed and left unbuffed, leaving a protective moist slippery film on the model car before being sealed in its original box. I am worried as this package is currently on-hold on the shipping courier's warehouse and may now be experiencing very frigid weather, What's the effect of this unbuffed wax ON THE PAINT as it is on ver cold temperatures? Will the paint blister? Will the paint fade? What about on plastic parts, will it become blurred and cloudy? Your enlightenment is greatly appreciated...

What is your experience with online camera shops? I've tried to buy Canon products from Photonation, Broadway photo, and Bestpricecameras.com. These companies advertise low prices then after you place the order they send you an order confirmation asking you to call them to "verify" your order. They then proceed to sell you warranties or sell you accessories that you don't want or need. Their final ploy is to tell you that the product you are buying is not a US model and that it is cheap because it is a foreign model with no warranty. Despite the information at their site saying they ship in 1 to 3 days they then tell you that the product will be shipped in 4 to 6 weeks! Photonattion told me that a camera I ordered has a magnesium body instead of whwtever Canon normally uses. My take is Canon does not make inferior products to sell overseas. If the product is inferior it has to be illegal and these companies should be prosecuted for selling bogus products. Bestpricecameras told me a lens I was ordering used plastic instead of glass
Questions about shipments to Singapore? Hi All, I am planning to buy a plastic model kit (toy) from japan and have it shipped to an acquaintance in Singapore. The kit costs around 22400 yen (285 SGD) without the shipment cost yet. My questions are as follows: 1. How much tax do I need to pay? I heard that as long as items are not dutiable and below 400 SGD there is no tax. is this correct? 2. If I use EMS shipment method will the shipment be delivered directly to the address I gave or do i have to pick it up from somewhere? I hope you will not point me to Singapore customs website as I have already read it. I'm trying to get first hand answers from people who have actually tried this. Answers to this questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. if you say there is no import tax, does this also means it is exempted from GST (7%)? thanks,
USPS package time frame? How long would it take for a plastic model plane kit to get from florida to seattle from USPS; it shipped on tuesday September 22.
Help with airbrush painting? Hi Yesterday I started my first painting by airbrush to paint my plastic model ( military battleship) ,when I finished painting the hull of the ship & waited the paint to dry ,I noticed that there was paint's dust on the hull& when I wipe the hull with my finger there was color's dust on my finger ,is that normal ? or did I do something wrong? although I did every thing mentioned on the airbrush manual & every experienced one I asked , I thinned a little bit the tamiya paint (acrylic paint), keep distance from the object (10-15 cm) , multi coating painting & I turned the trigger of the airbrush counter clockwise to widen the painting. Finally I needed to brush the hull with soft brush & tissue to clean the body hull of the ship from the dust. So what is that normal ? or did I do something wrong?
What the hell is wrong with Obama? On Gordon Browns visit with Obama during a traditional gift exchange, Brown in a carefully thought out process brought a pen holder made from the oak timbers of the Victorian anti slaver HMS Gannet, to which one of the White House desks is carved from the Gannets sister ship. He also gave a first edition of a seven volume biography of Winston Churchill. So what was Obamas gift to Brown? A gift box set of 25 DVDs! To make things even worse, Obama gave the Brown boys a plastic model helicopter of Marine One. Browns gift to the Obama girls...top shop dresses with matching necklaces. So I ask...What is wrong with Obama?
When you buy a new handgun, it usually comes in a hard plastic box along with a safety cable, ect....? ...occassionally when you buy one you also get the box (cardboard) that it was shipped in. On the outside of this box there is usually various information including the company name, model number, ect...my question is that this box sometimes has a serial number somewhere on it. Is this the same serial number that is on the gun, or does the box it's shipped in also have a seperate serial number? Reason I'm asking is that a gun of mine was recently stolen I've misplaced the paper where I had all the serial numbers written down, but I still have the box that the kel tec .380 came in and I'm wondering if the serial numbers are the same.
